Heritage Hotel Manila’s Executive Chef Sunny Goh whipped up a delectable array of authentic Singaporean dishes like Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, satay and nonya kueh, for the guests. Luminaries who graced the event include Singapore’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Ms. Lim Kheng Hua, Philippine Senator Franklin Drilon, First Daughter Luli Arroyo, Congresswoman Imee Marcos, and business guru Jose Cuisia. Speaking to reporters after the event, Hon. Imee Marcos, who confesses to be a laksa addict and a Jeremy Monteiro fan, said that it was a real joy to see Singaporean artists performing with their Filipino counterparts like saxophonist Tots Tolentino, who made a special appearance at Singapore Encore. Bunye, Executive Press Secretary of the Philippines, also felt that the event had helped to bring the people of Singapore and the Philippines closer together, and he hopes for more of such interactions in future.
Meanwhile, for many overseas Singaporeans based in Manila like Mr. Lee Eng Kee, President of the Singapore Philippine Association, Singapore Encore is another chance for them to get together and savour the familiar delights of home.
