As a medical student 30 years ago, something happened that will forever be seared in Tan Hak Koon's memory. The young doctor, who was attending to a pregnant woman, witnessed her death during childbirth - a tragic event that played a big part in his decision to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology.

In 2016, occupational therapist and prolific volunteer Alesia Koh chanced upon a video about the Society of People Support People (PSP) Malaysia on Our Better World – SIF’s digital initiative that highlights stories of people doing good in Asia. PSP is a non-profit organisation which conducts dives for people with disabilities. Watching the video, Koh was inspired by the differently-abled divers who braved the open sea.
