Together with Singapore volunteers and partners in both countries, we have worked with communities in and around Bangalore, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kolkata and Mumbai since 1995.
Volunteers like Siti Tasrifah bte Abdul Shukor have travelled to India to provide skills training for their professional counterparts. Over five visits to Kolkata, for example, Siti worked with the staff of Ahead, a school and rehabilitation centre for children and youths with special needs.
A teacher of students with special needs, Siti shared with her Indian counterparts in the areas of developing personalised teaching plans for students and classroom management.
Another fruitful partnership we have is with the Confederation of Indian Industry, with whom we run the Singapore-India Young Business Ambassadors programme, enabling young professionals from Singapore and Mumbai to live and work in each other’s cities.
A number of artists from Singapore have also made strides in presenting modern interpretations of classical Indian dance to Indian audiences through our arts grant Singapore Internationale.
