VIETNAM

Since 1994, the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) has worked alongside Vietnamese individuals, communities and organisations to improve quality of life through the sharing of skills and knowledge.

Our Words on Wheels initiative sees a van transformed into a library visiting 10 rural villages in Hanoi, giving thousands of children opportunities to read and access the internet.

Partners like Keppel Land and volunteers like Gladys Ng hold storytelling sessions, help the children to read, or coach them in using the net.

Other volunteers have made multiple trips to work with their counterparts on improving education, social work or healthcare.

Dr Ong Kim Kiat, for example, leads a team of eight doctors to train medical professionals in Ho Chi Minh on the care and treatment of complex heart conditions in infants and small babies.

And through the SIF-Asean Student Fellowship, we welcomed to Singapore 56 Vietnamese students who were able to gain insight into the inner workings of the island, and share with their peers in Singapore their views and experiences.

If you’d like to learn more about our work in Vietnam or get involved, please email us at contactus@sif.org.sg.

  • Nurturing the spirit of corporate volunteering
Riding on the success of the first Words on Wheels volunteering trip to Hanoi, Vietnam in 2011, Keppel Land continued their commitment by sending their staff on a second trip to do their bit for a good cause last November.
  • The gift of a healthy heart
Born with a serious heart defect, little Pham Hiem Suong was given a new lease of life, thanks to a project collaboration between Singaporean and Vietnamese doctors.
  • Making fond memories
Remembering well her afternoons at a mobile library, Gladys Ng jumps at the chance to help children in Vietnam make similar memories.
  • Walking the talk
To reduce discrimination against people living with HIV/Aids, Vietnamese social worker Vũ Thị Ngọc Hoàn decides to stay with them herself.
