SIF Xpat Connect! - Urban Farmers Tour
The SIF Xpats Connect! Urban Farmer's tour saw close to 40 participants heading for greener pastures in the Lim Chu Kang area on 16 August. Joining the tour were expatriates and Work Holiday programme participants who were introduced to another side of Singapore’s landscape. They visited Bollywood Veggies—a fruit and vegetable farm, Qian Hu ornamental fish farm and Aero-Green Technology, an aeroponics farm. The tour kicked off with a hearty organic breakfast at Bollywood Veggies followed by an introduction to the varieties of fruits and vegetables grown in the organic farm, including an astonishing number of species of bananas! Participants then visited Qian Hu and were introduced to one of the most commercially successful form of farming in Singapore—ornamental fish farming. The last stop, Aero-green Technology left a sweet aftertaste with a tour of the aeroponics farm, complete with a sampling of its very own creation—the 'lettucinno'. Ray Grimmon, from USA , commented that she had "made some new friends, explored new territory and now look forward to the next event." The Urban Farmers tour is part of the Foot Trail series of the SIF Xpats Connect! programme for expatriates in Singapore. Through the foot trails, we hope to foster amongst our expatriate friends a deeper understanding of Singapore and an appreciation of its history, heritage and different faces as we unearth hidden 'treasures' on the island together. <- Back to: Home |
