Four To Represent Singapore As Young Business Ambassadors To Shanghai



Singapore, October 9, 2008… Four young Singaporean professionals will experience a 10-week work stint in Shanghai as part of the Singapore International Foundation’s (SIF) annual Singapore-China Young Business Ambassadors (YBAs) programme.

The exchange programme between Singapore and Shanghai will allow the four with backgrounds in finance, law and urban planning, to learn about relevant industry trends, while networking with their Chinese counterparts. Likewise, from Shanghai, three Chinese YBAs will be on a learning and cultural exchange in Singapore.

34-year-old Singaporean Tony Tan, who was a 2007 Singapore-China YBA, recognises the benefits of the programme during his attachment with the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. “Working in Shanghai gave me a rare opportunity to have first hand experience of the Chinese working culture and to understand what makes China tick.”

The four Singapore YBAs are:

  • Ms Chim Chai Yong, Claudia, a URA Planner, who will be hosted in Shanghai by the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute.

  • Mr Leong Kin Hua, Roy, a Senior Consultant at Deloitte & Touche Enterprise Risk Services Pte Ltd. Mr Leong will be hosted by the Shanghai Electric Group Finance Company Ltd.

  • Ms Tan Siang Hsiang, Tammy Tracy, Financial Services Consultant at IPP Financial Advisers Pte Ltd will be hosted by Hua An Fund Management Company Ltd in Shanghai.

  • Mr Yeo Kok Siew, an Associate in the Corporate and Securities department at Baker & McKenzie, Wong & Leow, Singapore. Mr Yeo will be hosted by the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.

While the three Chinese YBAs are:

  • Mr Feng Chunlin, Project Manager of Investment Banking Division and League Branch Secretary at Shanghai Electric Group Finance Company Ltd. Mr Feng will be hosted by DBS Bank Ltd in Singapore.

  • Mr Liu Tielei, Senior Manager and Head of Energy and Petrochemical Industry, in Corporate and Investment Banking Department at the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. Mr Liu will be hosted by the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Ltd in Singapore.

  • Ms Lu Ke, an Engineer at Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute. Ms Lu will be hosted by the Urban Redevelopment Authortiy and the Ministry of National Development in Singapore.

The four young Singaporeans, who will be appointed Singapore-China YBAs this evening, will start their attachment on October 13. Singaporean Roy Leong hopes that the exchange will widen his outlook and enhance his personal skills while representing his country and company in Shanghai.

Ms Tammy Tan who hopes the attachment will help her contribute more effectively to her company says, “As a Young Business Ambassador, I have an invaluable opportunity to work in a Chinese enterprise to learn about the company’s operations and the marketing of funds in China.”
