Inaugural SIF-IBF-IPA Study Visit to Singapore
We partnered the Indonesia Bright Foundation (IBF) and Indonesian Professionals’ Association in Singapore (IPA) to organise the first SIF-IBF-IPA Study Visit to Singapore for four IBF scholars from 1 to 6 December 2015. The visit was the culmination of a 20-month collaboration in education between Singaporeans and Indonesians to inspire, encourage and support the educational growth and development of bright Indonesian youth who are beneficiaries of the IBF.
Having experienced Singapore as an undergraduate student, our 135-strong Indonesian alumni of the SIF-ASEAN Fellowship programme (1993 to 2004), were inspired to provide similar educational opportunities, exposure and experiences which they had gained to the next generation of bright Indonesian students.
The week-long study visit was organised in conjunction with SIF’s biennial reunion of Friends of Singapore (FOS) and programme alumni. Together with IPA leaders and IBF mentors, and with keen support from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore and the Communication Forum of the Indonesia Society in Singapore (FKMIS), we introduced the IBF scholars to Singapore’s strategies for sustainable urbanisation, water sufficiency and management, development in arts and culture, social innovation and technopreneurship. The scholars also got to know and make friends with a cross-section of the Singapore community, including the former Singaporean host families of Indonesian SIF-ASEAN Fellows, as well as staff and students of the National University of Singapore, where both accompanying IBF mentors spent a semester in the 1990s, some 20 years ago.
We are delighted to share with you highlights of the inaugural SIF-IBF-IPA study visit to Singapore.
The SIF-IBF-IPA collaboration in education strengthens cross cultural ties at the people-to-people level through the sharing of insights and experiences, and the nurturing of networks of enduring friendships.
We run Visits & Insights programmes for policy leaders, decision-makers and opinion-multipliers to strengthen international understanding and inspire action for good. World communities are introduced to Singapore's policy innovations and way of life, to gain understanding of Singapore and increase opportunities for cross-cultural collaborations.
