Arts Therapy International Humanitarian Mission

February - November 2016 | Erbil, Kurdistan

The art therapists started the workshop by inviting everyone to hold up their scarves which are tied together, to symbolise a circle of trust where issues and problems surfaced in the course of the workshop will be respected and kept confidential. Photo Credit: Edwin Koo

The SIF partnered Red Pencil International and Jiyan Foundation to conduct a three-step train-the-trainer programme for 20 psychotherapists who are working with Syrian children living at Qushtapa camp in Erbil, Kurdistan.  The programme equipped participants with art therapy knowledge and skills which were incorporated into their psychotherapeutic approaches. This programme is part of SIF’s Arts for Good initiative, which seeks to promote awareness of social issues, share best practices and enable action for positive social impact through the arts.
