Singapore International Foundation supports showcase of Singapore art abroad

Applications open for refreshed SIF arts and culture grant, which will give priority to projects that engage foreign counterparts and communities.

Singapore, 26 November 2009...Singaporean artists seeking to present their creative works abroad can tap on another source of funding. Singapore Internationale, an arts and culture grant by the Singapore International Foundation (SIF), will open for applications from 1 December 2009 to 31 January 2010.

Singapore Internationale supports Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are able to present different facets of Singapore to an overseas audience through their talent and creative works in the arts. The proposed work can belong to the fields of the performing arts, literary works, fine art, visual art, design, digital arts, culinary arts or other creative projects. The grant supports the staging of works abroad between 1 May 2010 and 31 December 2010. Grants can be awarded for up to S$20,000.

In line with the SIF’s refreshed vision of “Making friends for a better world”, which was launched in October, Singapore Internationale will take on an added dimension of promoting cross-cultural collaboration, understanding and friendship. Projects with collaborative elements between Singaporean artists and their foreign counterparts, or which can engage overseas arts practitioners and/or overseas communities through arts and culture will have an added advantage.

SIF’s Director for International Networking, Ms Serena Wong, elaborates, “More than just providing Singaporeans with the opportunity to go international with their creative works, the SIF recognises that Singapore Internationale can help to encourage mutual understanding through the sharing of ideas and experiences.

“We believe that arts and culture can be an effective means for our local talents to present the diversity of Singapore to the world community and promote better understanding. We also hope to encourage our Singaporean artists to exchange ideas and experiences on a more people-to-people level, whether by collaborating with their foreign counterparts or by engaging overseas communities through activities like workshops or dialogues.”

Since the inception of Singapore Internationale in 2000, the SIF has supported more than 100 practitioners from the creative fields. Please see the enclosed factsheet for the list of recent grant recipients from the last application cycle in June 2009.
