The power and life-long impact of volunteerism

Through movement, sound and cloth, Tapestry actors spontaneously "played back" the SIF volunteers' stories
To celebrate International Volunteer Day (5 December) and to recognise their contributions, Singapore International Volunteers and their friends were treated by the SIF to an evening with Tapestry Playback Theatre at The Arts House recently.
The audience was given a comfortable space to recount and relive some memorable parts of their volunteer journeys. And though reticent at first, volunteers, as well as friends who had not yet volunteered, were soon enough sharing some of their stories.
Then, through movement, sound and cloth, Tapestry actors spontaneously "played back" those stories, dramatising the poignant moments, evoking an array of emotions and highlighting the power and life-long impact volunteerism has on individuals, communities and the world.
The theatre event brought the curtain down on an eventful day, which also saw the SIF and the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital signing a Memorandum of Understanding which will see the two organisations collaborate more closely on projects to build the capacity of overseas health professionals and community groups to deliver quality healthcare services to women and children across Asia.
