What is the structure of the SIF Art Associates programme?
- Week 1 - Welcome tea and orientation in Singapore
- Week 1 - 10-week work attachment at the National Art Gallery Singapore commences
- Week 5 - Mid-term activities
- Week 10 - Farewell tea
What will the associates do when in Singapore?
- Participate in hands-on museum work:
- Exhibition planning and execution;
- Management of artefacts;
- Handling of freight and insurance matters, design and catalogue matters;
- Assisting with exhibition-related public programmes;
- Assisting with aspects of interpretive and publication work;
- Assisting with exhibition-related audience/education research and/or producing a research report.
- Review the National Art Gallery Singapore’s Collection, particularly works and artists from the associate’s country of origin.
- Share knowledge on art history, methodologies and the contemporary art scene from the associates’ respective countries of origin. The associates’ mentors will also share on the arts scene and its development in Singapore and the region.
- Visit key organisations in the art and heritage sector in Singapore, and network with other art practitioners and professionals.
- Gain an understanding of Singapore’s community and lifestyle through various socio-cultural activities.
What are the roles and responsibilities of an SIF Art Associate?
- Fulfil the 10-week work attachment at the National Art Gallery Singapore.
- Contribute to the curatorial development of the National Art Gallery Singapore through the associate’s review of the National Art Gallery Singapore’s collection.
- Share with your colleagues about the local art history and methodologies of your country, as well as the local contemporary art scene in the context of Southeast Asia and the world.
- Learn more about the art and heritage industry in Singapore and the region, as well as exchange views and perspectives with your mentors, colleagues and fellow associates.
