Words on Wheels Project (Yogyakarta, Indonesia), Indonesia

Description of Assignment

Words on Wheels (WOW) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is a mobile library project initiated and managed by the Singapore International Foundation, implemented in partnership with the Board of Library and Archives of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (BPAD DIY). The mobile library will travel 4 times a week to 10 schools in Yogyakarta, providing approximately 5,000 students with access to books in English and Bahasa Indonesia, as well as laptops and tablets fitted with the Internet and learning applications. Students will also get the opportunity to participate in English language activities conducted by visiting direct service volunteers who travel with the mobile library and staff from BPAD DIY to the participating schools. In addition, WOW (Yogyakarta) will look into the refurbishment of the library or computer lab in each of the participating schools to create a more conducive learning environment for the students.
