Specialists Projects

Our Specialist Volunteer programmes contribute to long-term, sustainable development in Asia by empowering our partners in the region to become catalysts for long-term, positive change in their respective communities, while creating greater intercultural understanding and appreciation.

Working with overseas partners in the areas of Healthcare and Education, our Specialist Volunteer programmes seek to improve the well-being and quality of life in overseas communities in alignment with their respective national goals, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Specialist Singapore International Volunteers (SIVs) share knowledge, skills and expertise with their regional counterparts via the following models:

Specialist SIV Teams

Teams of Specialist SIVs undertake regular overseas missions to exchange knowledge and skills with their overseas counterpart, building organisational and institutional capacity to effect long-term, positive change. They also conduct mutual sharing sessions, learning from each other in the process.

Our Specialist Volunteer missions are anchored on the following:

  • Incorporating a Training of Trainers (TOT) approach to enhance the professional skills of our overseas partners and help them become catalysts of change in their own communities
  • Teaching appropriate skills and technology that are guided by existing skills levels and resources available in the host country
  • Working with overseas partners with the commitment and resources to cascade and sustain the skills and technology transferred over the long-term

Specialist projects are carried out over a span of between two and three years. During this time, specialist SIVs travel for periods ranging from three to five days, for two to three times each year.

Specialist In-field Volunteers

Specialist In-field Volunteers live and work in overseas communities between six months and one year, serving as teachers, vocational trainers or medical practitioners. They transfer their skills and strengthen the capabilities of their overseas counterparts.
