Fostering An Asean Community – SIF Launches ‘Singapore: Insights From The Inside Volume III’ With Perspectives From Around The Globe
Singapore, 30 May 2018 – To commemorate Singapore’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year, the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) asked its friends from around the globe what ASEAN meant to them and how Singapore has and can contribute towards a better ASEAN community. 50 contributions by changemakers, industry captains, opinion leaders, and diplomats from across 20 nationalities, comprising short essays and illustrations have been compiled into Singapore: Insights from the Inside (SIFTI) Volume III.
The book explores the lesser known socio-cultural aspect of ASEAN through the experiences and anecdotes of the contributors. The featured contributions are guided by the Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) pillar which focuses on achieving a people-oriented and socially responsible ASEAN community.
Centred around five themes of identity, inclusiveness, innovation, imagination, and influence, contributors include Congressman Denny Heck, United States House of Representatives, Taizo Son, serial entrepreneur and CEO of Mistletoe, acclaimed chef Yoshihiro Murata, Piyush Gupta, CEO and Director of DBS Group, and Dr Noeleen Heyzer, former UN Under-Secretary-General.
Ms Jean Tan, SIF’s Executive Director said, “The SIF has been promoting greater understanding between Singaporeans and world communities through international collaboration since 1991. ASEAN has and continues to be a priority for the SIF; our collaborative efforts in ASEAN have spanned a quarter of a century. For instance, we’ve worked with Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam for the last 26 years, Indonesia for 25 years, and Mynamar for 23 years, in the areas such as education, healthcare, the environment, culture and livelihood. To have our international community come together to both celebrate and reflect on how we can all further promote peace and uplift the lives of its people is another positive step towards a more resilient and innovative ASEAN.”
The past two editions of SIFTI featured personal accounts of Singapore by members of the international community who have lived, worked, studied or played here. Volume III of Singapore: Insights from the Inside will be available for download from the SIF website at www.sif.org.sg/sifti from 30 May 2018, 7pm.
