Led by the SIF Chairman Ambassador Ong Keng Yong and SIF Executive Director Ms Jean Tan, President Halimah toured the Bazaar’s multimedia exhibition which was zoned by five focus areas of the SIF’s work, namely Arts and Culture; Business and Livelihood; Education; Environment; and Healthcare. During the walkthrough, President Halimah met and engaged with Citizen Ambassadors comprising Singapore International Volunteers and various programme alumni who have dedicated their time and talent to contribute to Singapore’s global citizenry efforts.
Celebrating 10 Years of Young Social Entrepreneurs
The inaugural Bazaar for Good also celebrates the 10th anniversary of an SIF’s signature programme – the Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE). Since 2010, the YSE programme has nurtured a network of 1,000 youth with innovative business ideas focused on social good. As part of its year-long celebration, the SIF invited 15 social enterprises – including YSE alumni and partners from Singapore, India, Indonesia and Malaysia – to showcase their social causes at the Bazaar. These inspiring social enterprises will share about their work and offer a range of food, drinks, wellness, and lifestyle products. All proceeds will benefit their impact-driven businesses and respective beneficiaries.
YSE 2017 alumni Langit Collective – which seeks to bring economic empowerment to rural communities and farmers in East Malaysia – is one of the participating social enterprises. Co-founder Melisa Lim shared: “We are honoured to be part of Bazaar for Good in Singapore this weekend. The YSE programme has been an incredible global platform in nurturing young social businesses like ours. We hope to contribute as much as we can to support the YSE family with over 1,000 alumni from around the world.”
The SIF marks 28 years of making friends for a better world since its inception in 1991. Its programmes are designed to bring Singaporeans and world communities together to collaborate for positive social change. To date, more than 39,000 Friends of Singapore have connected to and collaborated with Singaporeans to build a better world. These cross-border exchanges have strengthened mutual understanding among world communities and inspired action for good.
