The Words on Wheels (WOW) programme seeks to promote learning among children and youths in local communities. We create convenient access to books and the internet via a mobile library equipped with technology that offers opportunities for participation in educational activities. We also deliver culture-based and art-based virtual workshops to students to
encourage experiential learning.
The programme supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all. The programme also enables Singapore International Volunteers and international communities to forge cross-border friendships through knowledge-sharing and cultural exchanges.
The WOW mobile library travels four times a week, visiting 10 schools in Yogyakarta on a rotational basis, reaching out to about 5,000 students every year. WOW Yogyakarta also helps each participating school with the refurbishment of their libraries and computer labs to create a more conducive learning environment for students.
WOW Ho Chi Minh
Following the success of Phase 1, the second phase of WOW Ho Chi Minh benefits young children and students from District 2 and District 8 in the city. We have continued to reach out to them through our mobile library services and English Language and IT workshops and assisted in refurbishing the library and computer lab facilities of new participating schools.
While our WOW mobile libraries are still active, please be informed there will not be any resumption of overseas volunteer trips at the moment.
WOW Southeast Asia Art (WOW SEA Art)
The WOW SEA Art programme brings together two SIF Arts for Good Projects - Legends of the SEA and ArtSEA.
Through art and storytelling, the lesson plans of Legends of the SEA and ArtSEA’s community-building programme are expanded and combined to deliver culture-based and values-based art workshops to students in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Hear from Our Volunteers
“I had been looking to do some volunteer work but didn't feel I could build houses and schools or render any medical assistance. Helping children to learn through icebreakers and show-and-tell sessions, however, was something I felt I could handle.”
Singapore International Volunteers Team Leader, WOW
"I really enjoyed being a part of the WOW SEA Art programme. It was heartening to see children interact actively and express themselves through the activities. It was also a great opportunity to nurture in children the importance of self-expression, embracing one’s uniqueness and respecting diversity. Not only that, I also took away valuable lessons from the children, such as, being curious and not being afraid to speak their mind."
